American Piano Manufacturer

East Rochester NY was once the home of American Piano Manufacturer. It is the place where I learned how to carve piano bridges in the late 1970’s, from one of their long-time master craftsmen. At this location Mason-Hamlin, Chickering, and Wm. Knabe pianos were built under the ownership of The Aolian- American Corp. Like many Northeastern manufacturers they fell victim to foreign competitors in Asia. The magnificent facility was converted to a shopping mall. Mason-Hamlin was saved but Knabe and Chickering pianos were lost. I can not tell you how happy I am to hear the recent news that under the direction of President Trump and his administration the Kodak company in Rochester is being revised into a new company, Kodak Pharmaceuticals, to manufacture pharmaceutical compounds. Soon we will no longer be reliant on China and India for the drugs injected into the blood stream of ourselves and our children. I hope people realize how important it is to safeguard our manufacturing capabilities and no longer give them away. If not for the now-gone piano factory where would I ever have learned my trade.
